The most important thing to remember is that this is a wild owl and although it may be sick or injured and need help it will be very frightened of you and you should approach the bird very calmly and quietly.
SHOCK IS THE BIGGEST CAUSE OF DEATH.
Owls have very sharp talons and will use them when frightened so be careful.
DO NOT USE YOUR BARE HANDS.
Put the owl in a secure box, if you do not have a box wrap the owl in a towel or cloth, even your coat, making sure that there is ventilation, do not handle it to much, this will stress the owl even more. Putting it somewhere quiet, dark and warm will help keep it calm. Do not let all your friends and neighbours look at it.
Do not try to feed the Owl or give it water it may need surgery. Most vets will treat wild animals/ birds free of charge so do not worry.
PLEASE MAKE A NOTE OF THE LOCATION WHERE THE OWL WAS FOUND. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
GET THE OWL TO A VET OR YOUR LOCAL OWL/RAPTOR RESCUE. DO NOT TRY TO TREAT IT YOURSELF.
The most common causes of death and injury to Owls are, collisions with vehicles, drowning and ingesting poisons through the food chain.

We will examine the Owl to see if it needs immediate veterinary attention, if so we will contact our vet and arrange to take the owl to him. We will continue to keep the Owl in a quite, warm and dark place.
If the Owl needs surgery or treatment we will collect it when it is fit to come back to us and look after it until it is fit to go back into the wild.
While the Owls are in our care we must ensure that they remain wary of humans, so we avoid any unnecessary contact with them otherwise they become imprinted and cannot be returned to their natural habitat.
WILD OWLS BELONG IN THE WILD THEY ARE NOT HAPPY WITH HUMANS.
If an Owl is injured in such a way that it cannot be returned to the wild or be given a good quality of life the kindest thing is for the vet to put it to sleep thus avoiding any more stress for it.
WE ALWAYS ASK WHERE THE OWL WAS FOUND, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, OWLS ARE VERY TERRITORIAL AND NEED TO BE RETURNED TO THEIR OWN TERRITORY.
WE WILL NEVER REFUSE TO HELP AN INJURED OWL WITHIN REASON AND CAN BE CONTACTED 24 HOURS A DAY IN MOST CASES.
